Cherno Jobatey is not just a journalist. Born in Berlin, he is someone who enters the political arena with such ease, makes big business bosses wonder and lures celebrities out of their shells so charmingly that they end up being amazed at their own statements. He always remains cool, quick-witted and – you have to hand it to him – damn entertaining.
The Washington Post describes Cherno Jobatey as a “very well-known German television personality”. His talent: talking about politics in a very highly informative and at the same time to-the-point way, with ‘one-liners’ reminiscent of stand-up. That also makes him a regular guest on talk shows.
Cherno Jobatey, expert on politics
Cherno Jobatey has been reporting on politics for decades. He breaks down current political events, analyzes and lifts the curtain on the power machines of Berlin, London and Washington.

Germany’s powerful are more personal, with Cherno Jobatey
There are journalists – and there is Cherno Jobatey. The difference? Some report on the great personalities of our time – Jobatey meets them in person, chats with them and elicits personal details from them, while also providing long-lasting topics of conversation!
The idea: to portray politicians and public figures in a private setting in such a way that we can get behind the familiar public face and understand their decisions.
Cherno Jobatey jogs with party leaders, barbecues with Frank Walter Steinmeier, cycles with the Vice-Chancellor, plays tennis with Bavaria’s Minister President or rocks out to Van Halen’s hit “Jump” on the keyboard with Minister of Justice Marco Buschmann.

From the streets of Berlin to his dream job: journalist
Even as a young boy, Jobatey dreamed of becoming a journalist – asking cool people cool questions. At school, he started at RIAS radio, then wrote for the “taz” newspaper. He later reported for several daily newspapers: Tagesspiegel, Welt, Bild and for weeklies such as Spiegel, Die ZEIT, Cosmopolitan, Focus and WirtschaftsWoche.

With many coincidences, which are only possible in Berlin, the best city in the world, Jobatey, a student of politics, squeezes his way into the regional editorial office of the local ARD-Network station. A short time later, the newly appointed TV journalist is over the moon as he roams the streets of Berlin with a camera crew. Whether politics, pop culture, allotment garden colonies, the secrets of success of the best kebab stand or environmental disasters – Cherno Jobatey finds the story and tells it in such a way that you can’t help but watch. As a young reporter, he is then fortunate enough to get an internship in the Washington office of ARD-Network and reports from the White House.

Journalist Cherno Jobatey becomes the host of the ZDF morning news
When breakfast television arrives in Germany, Cherno Jobatey is one of the main presenters right from the start. He quickly becomes a permanent fixture and a trademark of ZDF-network. He shows that journalism can not only be informative, but also captivating. The FAZ attests that “he has made the mixture of news, interviews and consumer service an unlikely audience success”. The “ZDF-Morgenmagazin” is a great success for the channel and for Cherno Jobatey, who has presented it for more than twenty years.

CHERNO! Die RBB-Talkshow, Journalist in charge of entertainment
In the German capital, the TV presenter now has his own brand: “Cherno! Die RBB-Talkshow”. For five years, Cherno Jobatey has been conducting informative and entertaining interviews in prime time. A talk show that not only runs, it races! The ratings: A 24% market share in the highly competitive 8.15 p.m. slot! Political heavyweights, intellectuals, artists, sports stars and ‘people from the street’ were among his diverse guests. A mixture of depth, humor and just the right amount of tongue-in-cheek.
